The first project to emerge from OOTW's new workshop is a pair of maple benches.
Originally intended for use on our stoep, they have come together so well that when not in use outside, they live alongside our dining room table.

Maple was chosen for its light colour and durability; both essential for continuous and hard use. The benches have been finished with several coats of Danish Oil.

For strength, the legs are joined to the seat with through mortice and tenon joints as well as an additional (hidden) mortice and tenon joint cut into the underside of the seat. A brace has been added between the legs for optimal stability - especially vital when diners are enjoying themselves...

A large room divider (referred to as Roomdividerzilla), measuring 2.5m long x 2.0m wide. Made entirely in 30mm thick laminated Oregon Pine. Roomdividerzilla has fully adjustable shelving and a similarly finished rear panel as once installed, it will be viewed from both sides.

Two views of a simple dressing table and stool made in Ash.

Designed to fit into an existing bedroom with the minimum of impact, Ash was chosen for the table and stool because of its neutral tones, hardness and excellent figuring. The bottom image shows some of the joinery in close-up.

A tall hall table, designed to give the appearance of a gazelle. Made in Bubingo and Yellowood, this is a highly decorative piece, which can be enhanced with a simple ornament and a low voltage halogen spotlight.

The Weber table - a project which started out as a nice-to-have and evolved into an essential. Different top sizes make it possible to seat 4, 6 8, or more people comfortably.
